Company successfully completes Factory Acceptance Testing on state-of-the-art manufacturing line 1; remains on schedule for Q2 commissioning

EDISON, N.J., May 14, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) (“Eos” or the “Company”), a leading provider of safe, scalable, efficient, and sustainable zinc-based long duration energy storage systems, today announced financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024.

First Quarter Highlights

  • Revenue totaled $6.6 million from its Z3 semi-automated manufacturing line, 25% lower than prior year period, driven by customer revenue recognition timing.
  • Cost of Goods Sold totaled $28.2 million, a 5% increase compared to prior year period, on 28% higher manufacturing volume.
  • Operating expenses totaled $19.5 million, a 3% decrease compared to prior year period.
  • Cash balance of $31.8 million (excluding restricted cash) as of March 31, 2024.
  • Commercial opportunity pipeline of $13.3 billion, a 56% increase compared to prior year with a $602.7 million backlog as of March 31, 2024, an increase of 13% compared to March 31, 2023.
  • Expanded and extended existing agreement with Pine Gate Renewables with a new Master Supply Agreement (MSA) for 500 MWh of energy storage systems to be delivered over the next five years.

Eos Chief Executive Officer Joe Mastrangelo said, “We’ve now shipped over 110 Z3 Cubes to five separate customers since the first shipment in late September. It’s an incredible testament to the work of the entire Eos team, considering that last year we were still manufacturing Gen 2.3 and were yet to launch the Z3. I’m incredibly proud of the work this team has accomplished and where we stand today.”

Mastrangelo concluded, “We’ve made tremendous progress toward the goals outlined on the December Strategic Outlook call and we are now just weeks away from commissioning our first state-of-the-art manufacturing line in Turtle Creek, PA. Our orders backlog and pipeline remain strong, and the significant volume, cost, and manufacturability benefits associated with our first line will improve our ability to meet the growing demand for longer duration energy storage needs with a safe, quiet, American made solution.”

2024 Outlook

The Company reaffirmed the following outlook for 2024:

  • The Company expects to recognize $60 million to $90 million in revenue as state-of-the-art (SotA) manufacturing line 1 is expected to complete Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) in Q2 2024. The Company then plans to increase manufacturing volume throughout 2024 that aligns production with customer requirements as well as the planned realization of its cost-out roadmap.
  • The Company forecasts positive contribution margin in Q4 2024 as multiple cost reduction actions are implemented throughout the year. Contribution margin is defined as sales price less direct labor and direct materials and includes the benefit of the production tax credits.

Recent Business Highlights

Project AMAZE
In early May, the Company successfully achieved Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for its first SotA manufacturing line. The line, designed and developed in partnership with ACRO Automation Systems, is in the process of being disassembled, shipped, and installed in the Turtle Creek facility for SAT. Completing FAT is a significant milestone for the Company as all process stations are functioning as designed and an initial 12 second cycle time has been achieved, with a clear path to a 10 second target. The line remains on schedule with the expectation to be commissioned in Q2 2024, an important milestone as the Company continues to focus on meeting the conditions of the United States Department of Energy Title XVII loan.

Eos Z3 Shipments; Company Surpasses ~3 GWh of Cumulative Total Energy Discharged
Announced on April 23, 2024, Eos has manufactured and shipped over 110 Z3 Cubes and nearly 75,000 battery modules to five different customers since late September 2023. As of today, 95% of those cubes shipped have now been installed on foundations and are commencing final customer commissioning followed by Z3 Cube field operation.

Eos’s technology has cumulatively discharged approximately 3 GWh in energy, adding another 400 MWh in just the last three weeks. The majority of discharged energy comes from Gen 2.3 systems operating in the field with over 1.4 GWh discharged year to date.

Path to Profitability
In December, the Company outlined an 80% Z3 launch to scale cost reduction target. The Company has accelerated and secured 55% of the direct material cost-out target as the R&D, engineering and supply chain teams work to utilize alternative materials, increase energy density, and execute on long term supplier contracts. The Company recently transitioned to its lower cost, higher energy density module along with its new inline energy cube, two programs that are critical to its cost roadmap and manufacturing processes. Current Eos manufacturing footprint is sized for the 1.25 GWh SotA line 1 capacity. As the Company ramps production, labor and overhead absorption are forecasted to improve in line with the December 2023 Strategic Outlook Call. In addition, the Company is investing in a plan that will further increase SotA line 1 capacity by nearly 1 GWh utilizing the same manufacturing footprint.

Market Outlook
With a robust pipeline valued at $13.3 billion, the Company is poised to capitalize on the growing demand for domestically produced energy storage solutions driven by recent developments in policy, technology, and market dynamics. In a strategic move to fortify national security and protect critical infrastructure, Congress, through the National Defense Authorization Act, has enacted a ban on the Department of Defense’s procurement and use of select Chinese-manufactured batteries across its operations. Eos continues to see this as a tremendous growth opportunity as the need for safe, non-flammable, American-made energy storage technology plays a pivotal role in enabling the widespread adoption of renewable energy and advancing grid resilience. The Company is currently working 1.2 GWh in late stage-approvals, awaiting grant awards, shortlisted projects, and final contracting with Eos technology.

Key Metrics

Backlog. Our backlog represents the amount of revenue that we expect to realize from existing agreements with our customers for the sale of our battery energy storage systems and performance of services. The backlog is calculated by adding new orders in the current fiscal period to the backlog as of the end of the prior fiscal period and then subtracting the shipments in the current fiscal period. If the amount of an order is modified or cancelled, we adjust orders in the current period and our backlog accordingly, but do not retroactively adjust previously published backlogs. There is no comparable US-GAAP financial measure for backlog. We believe that the backlog is a useful indicator regarding the future revenue of our Company.

Pipeline. Our pipeline represents projects for which we have submitted technical proposals or non-binding quotes plus letters of intent (“LOI”) or firm commitments from customers. Pipeline does not include lead generation projects.

Booked Orders. Booked orders are orders where we have legally binding agreements with a Purchase Order (“PO”) or Master Supply Agreement (“MSA”) executed by both parties.

Eos Energy Enterprises Provides Business Update

Continued progress against December 2023 Strategic Outlook, releases preliminary first quarter 2024 results, and announces first quarter financial results and conference call timing

EDISON, N.J., April 23, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) (“Eos” or the “Company”), a leading provider of safe, scalable, efficient, and sustainable zinc-based energy storage systems, today provided an update on the goals outlined in the December 2023 Strategic Outlook and its preliminary first quarter results. Eos continues to reach milestones necessary to achieve the goals outlined in the Strategic Outlook in December 2023, particularly related to cost reduction initiatives, Project AMAZE implementation and Eos Z3™ production.

“The team continues to progress towards the milestones and goals presented during our December Strategic Outlook call, and is focused on delivering customer shipments, reducing costs for both Eos and our customers, and remaining on schedule to commission our first state-of-the-art manufacturing line in Turtle Creek during Q2,” said Joe Mastrangelo, CEO of Eos. “We continued to ship additional Z3 Cubes to customer locations this quarter and our cost reduction efforts are beginning to yield better gross margins compared to prior quarter results. We are excited by these recent achievements and remain motivated by the opportunity in front of us.”

Industry Recognition, Cost-Out & Performance Improvement
On April 18, Sabic Specialties Business won the coveted Gold Edison Award for the high electrically conductive compounds co-developed with Eos specifically for the Z3 battery module. Inspired by Thomas Edison, the Edison Awards™ are a globally respected leader in honoring the highest levels of new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design, and innovation. Over the past four years, Eos and SABIC worked collaboratively to develop a solution using one of SABIC’s new resin materials to replace the titanium used in prior Eos battery iterations and this patented material and innovation is one of many product cost out examples on Eos’s path to profitability.

The Company outlined an 80% cost reduction target from Z3 launch to scale, and direct materials accounted for 29 percentage points of that reduction. The Company has secured 55% of the direct material cost-out target as the R&D, engineering and supply chain teams work to utilize alternative materials, increase energy density and execute on long term supplier contracts. Innovating materials and establishing a secure, U.S.-based supply chain remains a priority for lowering component costs and delivering higher performing battery modules. Eos is currently manufacturing the higher energy density, lower cost battery module that was discussed in December and the Q4 2023 earnings conference call.

Z3 Production and State-of-the-Art Automated Manufacturing Line
Central to Project AMAZE and discussed during the Company’s December 2023 Strategic Outlook, scaled production is the largest cost reduction opportunity. Improved overhead, fixed cost and variable labor utilization are forecasted to reduce Z3 product cost by 51% when operating the state-of-the-art manufacturing line at scale.

Working with ACRO Automation, the Company successfully tested the mechanical and electrical line design and is now optimizing performance and cycle time to deliver quality Z3 battery modules. The line is producing batteries in ACRO’s Wisconsin facility to be used in product testing. The companies are fine tuning software and operational sequencing to improve material flow and achieve the required cycle time for successful Factory Acceptance Testing.

While preparing for the expected Q2 2024 state-of-the-art manufacturing line installation and commissioning, Eos continues to manufacture Z3 battery modules on its semi-automated line. Once integrated into the Turtle Creek facility, the annual manufacturing capacity for delivering energy storage systems is expected to be 1.25 GWh. Achieving this milestone is critical to reducing overhead and indirect labor costs in alignment with the Company’s cost-out plan.

Shipped Over 110 Z3 Cubes; Discharged ~1 GWh of Cumulative Total Energy in 2024
Utilizing its semi-automated manufacturing line, Eos has manufactured and shipped over 110 Z3 Cubes and nearly 75,000 battery modules to five different customers since late September 2023. More than 65% of the cubes shipped have been installed on foundations and are awaiting final customer commissioning to bring Z3 into full field operation, an important milestone in converting Eos’s $13.3 billion opportunity pipeline as of the end of the first quarter into booked orders. Commissioning represents an important stage in the project lifecycle and includes ensuring proper mechanical and electrical installation before energization, testing site controls integration, optimizing and tuning site operations to maximize customer use case performance, and customer training on Eos BESS system operation.

Eos’s technology has cumulatively discharged approximately 2.6 GWh in energy, which is enough energy to light an entire NFL season’s worth of games. Most of this energy is from Gen 2.3 systems operating in the field with 1 GWh in discharged energy year to date. The Company expects this number to continue growing as customers cycle the existing Gen 2.3 energy storage systems and Z3 projects become fully operational throughout 2024.

Announces Production Tax Credit Monetization
On April 22, Eos closed an agreement with Banyan Software, Inc. to accelerate its 2023 production tax credit monetization. Eos received $2.3 million in cash, representing a 10% discount on the value of its credits. The Company anticipates additional future transactions to accelerate the cash benefits of the IRA production tax credits to fund operations and strengthen its balance sheet. Simultaneously, the Company continues to work towards closing and funding the conditional loan commitment with the U.S. Department of Energy Loans Program Office.

Preliminary First Quarter Results & Conference Call Timing
Eos expects to record revenue of approximately $6.6 million for the first quarter, as the Company completed shipments of its first Texas project owned by a large North American infrastructure fund. As the Company continues to scale Z3 production, it is currently expecting a 5-10% gross margin improvement quarter over quarter. The Company had an ending cash balance (excluding restricted cash) of approximately $31.8 million and an orders backlog of $602.7 million as of March 31, 2024.

Eos will release its first quarter 2024 financial results after the U.S. market closes on May 14, 2024. A conference call to discuss its results will be held on May 15 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

Full-year gross margins improved by 41% year over year

EDISON, N.J., March 04, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) (“Eos” or the “Company”), a leading provider of safe, scalable, efficient, and sustainable zinc-based long duration energy storage systems, today announced financial results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2023, and announced 2024 outlook.

Fourth Quarter Highlights

  • Revenue totaled $6.6 million, a 148% increase compared to prior year, as the Company fully transitioned production to the Eos Z3TM Cube on its semi-automated manufacturing line.
  • Cost of Goods Sold totaled $30.4 million, a 66% gross margin improvement compared to prior year resulting from the Eos Z3 battery’s simple design that utilizes low-cost raw materials combined with a streamlined manufacturing process.
  • Operating expenses totaled $18.5 million; a 10% reduction compared to Q4 2022.
  • Cash balance of $69.5 million (excluding restricted cash) as of December 31, 2023.
  • Commercial opportunity pipeline of $13 billion, a 77% increase compared to prior year with a $534.8 million orders backlog as of December 31, 2023, an increase of 15% compared to December 31, 2022.

Full Year Highlights

  • Revenue totaled $16.4 million, compared to $17.9 million in the prior year as the company launched the Eos Z3 Cube that has current cycle times of less than 3-minutes, down 70% since product launch, with scrap rates running below 3%.
  • Costs of Goods Sold was $89.8 million, a $63.5 million decrease compared to prior year, a 41% gross margin improvement driven by lower raw material input costs combined with initial Z3 program benefits.
  • Operating expenses of $79.5M, a 7% decrease compared to prior year, primarily driven by tighter cost control measures.

Eos Chief Executive Officer Joe Mastrangelo said, “Eos transitioned its entire manufacturing capacity from Gen 2.3 to the new Eos Z3 Cube. We’ve already begun seeing the anticipated operational benefits associated with the Z3 battery design that provides improved power density along with lower unit costs from its simpler mechanical design.”

Mastrangelo concluded, “We remain focused on executing the path to profitability outlined in our December 12 strategic outlook call that includes bringing into service the state-of-the-art (SotA) manufacturing line 1. I’m pleased to report that the timeline for expanding affordable American made battery storage capacity remains unchanged. There continues to be strong demand signals for longer duration energy storage, and we’re excited to work with our customers to fulfill this growing need with a safe, secure and differentiated alternative.”

2024 Outlook

  • For full year 2024, the Company expects to recognize $60 million to $90 million in revenue as state-of-the-art (SotA) line 1 is expected to begin initial commercial production in Q2 2024.
The cost out program should deliver initial benefits in late Q1 2024, with majority of the benefits being achieved in Q4 2024 as the Company ramps up production volume.

Recent Business Highlights

Project AMAZE
At the end of January, the Company’s automation partner, ACRO Automation, fully powered on the core Eos Z3 battery assembly and finishing operations on SotA line 1. Achieving this milestone begins system integration, implementing final controls logic and full mechanical completion followed by the automation system debugging to prepare for Factory Acceptance Testing in Wisconsin. The Company is currently on schedule for full SotA line 1 commissioning in Turtle Creek during Q2 2024.

Eos Z3 Product Launch
In mid-February, the Company produced the 100th Eos Z3 Cube which took less than 5 months compared to Gen 2.3 where over one and a half years were required to produce the first 100 units. Since the Z3 launch in September, the Company has reduced Eos Z3 battery cycle times from an average of 10 minutes at launch to 3 minutes, with scrap rates below 3%. The Company will continue manufacturing on its semi-automated manufacturing line until SotA line 1 is commissioned. The 2024 revenue assumptions tie factory output with customer delivery requirements and the Company’s cost-out roadmap to minimize working capital requirements.

Path to Profitability
During the first quarter, the Company entered a multiyear agreement with SABIC Specialties’ US business unit to supply conductive composite thermoplastic for the Eos Z3 battery module while also expanding its partnership with TETRA Technologies. TETRA is designated as Eos’s preferred strategic electrolyte supplier for the Eos Z3 Cube. These expanded partnerships position Eos to better achieve scale, reduce costs per battery, and improve overall quality and performance as the Company progresses on its cost-out roadmap with initial savings to be realized in late Q1 2024. As of Q4 2023, the Company achieved nearly 30% product cost out, which is more than 35% of the Z3 cost reduction goal stated on the December 12 strategic outlook call. The Company expects the Eos Z3 Cube to achieve a power density up to 695 kWh for longer duration applications by the end of Q1 2024 with planned increases to deliver 800 kWh by the end of 2024.

Commercial Outlook
The Company continues to build a strong foundation both domestically and internationally, with its commercial opportunity pipeline increasing to $13 billion as of Q4 2023.  There are 1.9 GWh in late-stage opportunities, including a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pine Gate Renewables to expand the existing partnership with closing anticipated by the end of Q1 2024. Recent macro-level regulations continue to drive a shift toward longer duration discharges combined with the need for safe, secure American made energy storage solutions. In addition, the Company is seeing increased international momentum as three key markets recently communicated renewable goals for the next decade. Most recently, an Eos Z3 Cube was shipped to Sicily, Italy to test a diverse set of potential use cases that is expected to provide further opportunities for international growth.

Key Metrics

Multiyear supply agreement supports scaling Eos’s Z3 battery production and reducing battery module cost as part of Project AMAZE

TURTLE CREEK, Pa., Feb. 01, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) (“Eos” or the “Company”), a leading provider of safe, scalable, efficient, and sustainable zinc-based long duration energy storage systems, today entered a multiyear agreement with SABIC Specialties’ US business unit, SHPP US LLC, a Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (“SABIC”) affiliate, to supply conductive composite thermoplastic for the Eos Z3 battery module. Over the past four years, Eos and SABIC worked collaboratively to develop a solution using one of SABIC’s new resin materials to replace the titanium used in prior Eos battery iterations.

“Over the past six years, we’ve worked hard to take Eos from a research company to an operating company. Moving from the lab to small-scale production, and now to manufacturing at scale, requires partners who bring a mix of scale and expertise,” said Joe Mastrangelo, CEO of Eos. “Our entrepreneurial spirit allows us to find creative ways to drive down cost and improve battery performance. In working closely with SABIC Specialties, we specified an innovative new material that we believe can be produced at scale in the United States.”

Eos and SABIC Specialties began collaborating on this new light-weight material in 2019 and took several years of research and development to finalize a solution. The SABIC-developed and patented material supports detailed requirements provided by Eos’s application technology team. The Eos Z3 battery module weighs 80% less than prior product generations and allows streamlined manufacturing, while achieving lower cost and higher performance.

“We are driven to enable progress and a carbon neutral future together with our customers. Innovation in batteries is key for the energy transition,” said Darpan Parikh, Director, Sales and Supply Chain, Americas, SABIC Specialties. “Working together with Eos has been instrumental to help us push the boundaries of material science to improve their application’s performance and manufacturing process.”

“Scaling toward profitability is priority number one for us, and finding new materials and manufacturing processes to drive down cost moves us closer to this goal,” said Francis Richey, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Eos. “On top of that cost benefit, replacing titanium with conductive composite thermoplastic also improves the overall performance of the battery, reduces weight and overall processing time.”

This is the second major supply chain partnership announced by Eos in 2024, as the Company continues on its path to profitability outlined in its Dec. 12 Strategic Outlook.

Companies executed an agreement establishing TETRA as the preferred strategic supplier of electrolyte products for Eos

TURTLE CREEK, Pa., Jan. 09, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc. (NASDAQ: EOSE) (“Eos” or the “Company”), a leading provider of safe, scalable, efficient, and sustainable zinc-based long duration energy storage systems, today expanded its partnership with TETRA Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TTI) a leading global energy services and solutions company, designating TETRA as the preferred strategic supplier of electrolyte products for Eos’s new, American made, Eos Z3™ long duration energy storage cube. TETRA is expected to supply a minimum of 75% of the total electrolyte product demand going forward.

“TETRA is a proven global fluid solution provider, and the Eos strategy has centered around finding raw materials being used in other industries to provide both scale and cost efficiencies,” said Joe Mastrangelo, CEO of Eos. “As we scale, we need supply chain partners that can help us achieve growth, reduce cost, and improve overall performance of our battery. This partnership achieves that while we continue to develop a U.S. supply chain.”

The expected demand growth for Long Duration Energy Storage requires increased volume at scale, and with TETRA’s investment in expanded bromine production, Eos is better positioned to achieve the scale necessary over the next several years, while reducing cost per battery and improving overall quality and performance.

Key to the operational success of the Eos Z3™ cube is high purity zinc-bromide, which is part of Eos’ patented electrolyte system. TETRA’s U.S. based patented manufacturing process produces some of the highest purity levels of zinc-bromide (PureFlow®) globally. The electrolyte solution is one of the largest cost components of the Eos Z3 cube and this agreement supports progress on the Company’s path to profitability. The two companies have been working together since 2021 to improve the quality of the electrolyte solution.

“We have been working closely and collaboratively with Eos for years as they transition to their new Z3 technology, and in that time have evolved from only supplying zinc-bromide PureFlow® to now offering the full electrolyte solution,” said Brady Murphy, President and CEO of TETRA Technologies Inc. “This relationship dovetails nicely with our bromine production plans, and we are excited to be part of Eos’s future plans and Inflation Reduction Act objectives.”

This four-year agreement is an expansion of an existing partnership between the two companies that began in 2021 and includes provisions that allow for extending the agreement beyond the initial four-year term. Eos and TETRA officials indicate that the agreement includes favorable pricing and cost savings allocation methodologies that motivate both parties to actively pursue further cost reductions.
